Got Boobs?

I can't sleep, so this beautiful, bountiful torso came from the depths of insomnia instead. I hope you enjoy out there. You know who you are.

Figure Drawing Class 1

NOTICE: If you think nudity is evil and dirty then, well, firstly you're an idiot, and secondly, don't scroll down, because there are evil, dirty drawings of lines that resemble a person who is naked. It's not really a person who is naked, just lines on paper that, when combined, create the illusion of nudity.

There. I've said my piece. Now continue downwards, daredevils.

As all of you may or may not know - I never went to Art School. I'm self-taught. A self-made "artist" (and, yeah, I'll be using the quotes until I do it exclusively for a living, my friends).

So that means I've never done a Figure Drawing class. You know, where a bunch of people get together with their art supplies and a cute, nice young woman disrobes (or stays clothed sometimes) and does poses so you can, you know, draw her and learn how shadows and anatomy work with a living, breathing human being.

So on Sunday I was invited to Sketchy Doodle here in Phoenix (Tempe, actually - but these little cities are just code for PHOENIX), and I was ecstatic, but nervous. But then I got there and everybody was very sweet-natured and professional and cool. Some people were just starting out, some people could draw very well. And, below, you'll see the very first of my life figure drawing, and the time that the dear woman held the pose. I drew a lot of pictures (I draw fast anyway), but I've selected the ones that I favor the most. I had the best fun sitting for three hours drawing a subject since I drew for people at the recent Phoenix Comicon.

There was still time left-over for me for the "hour-long" pose that only took my pen and ink 40 minutes, so I got closer for a portrait.

Well, that's it! I won't show the ones I thought kind of sucked.

I hope you enjoy these sketches as much as I did drawing them!

Legend of the Lost Boobies

New Moleskine sketchbook double-page spread above.

Below are a bunch of drawings I did about a year ago in a retired sketchbook. For one reason or another, I never scanned or posted them. Not sure why, because I was flipping through it and I really liked these selections. I hardly remember drawing any of them, but I think each one is pretty decent in its own way. Enjoy the boobness.

Censored

Oh, and, hey, I finally saw the new-ish X-Men Origins: Wolverine flick, and I thought it was pretty good. Sure, it had more than a few silly moments here and there and waaaay more than a few uber-cliched shots of looking up into the heavens and screaming, but it was a fun time and I got what I wanted: Wolverine going around getting pissed off and slashing people. This ain't Shakespeare, folks. It's freakin' Wolverine. Why did everyone think it was a total pile of crap? The opening credit sequence alone was worth the price of admission. And if you don't dig on the Jackman, then there's always Ryan Reynolds and the dude who played Gambit. Which reminds me - freakin' Gambit is in it, and he's pretty badass, so that's reason enough to like it! You fools.

I suppose you can't please everyone.

Except me, I guess.

Lobotomy

So I can't afford a good set of Copic markers, so I went and grabbed the next best thing: Prismacolor Markers. These things are great! I got five shades of Cool Grey, a couple of Blacks, and a couple of blenders. They're still pretty pricey, but It's almost like doing a dark watercolor wash without watercolors or a wash. I'm so pleased with these markers. The allow me to draw very quickly again, which is what I always loved to do (my pen and ink drawings of late can be very time-consuming).

Anywho. Above is the Photoshop-tinkered version of the Lobotomy Girl which I quite like. Below is the original done in Cool Grey Prismacolor Markers. Enjoy!

She Used To Be So Blue

Here's a strange process for you. I painted the girl above in monochromatic blue acrylic tones on an 18x24 canvas. I didn't like the resulting painting much (I may paint over it so as not to waste the canvas). I then, however took a crappy low-resolution photo of the painting with my camera phone (losing quite a bit of the detail), imported the photo into Photoshop, made it black and white and threw a little diffused glow at it (losing even more detail). And you know what? I kinda like it now. Somehow filtering it through the crappy camera on my phone and turning it black and white made it look better here than it does in person.

Ah, the wonders of the computer age.

Taking It Off

Some nakedness for your Monday!

And remember - it's just lines on a page, and not really a woman peeling her clothes off slowly just for you. So settle down, already. Sheesh.

Stars On Thars

Approximately 12 inches vertical by 11 horizontal, acrylic on cardboard (I think the cardboard backing that comes with Fruit of the Loom packs of plain white T-shirts or something like that). I can't stress how much better it looks in person. It doesn't fit my puny scanner, so my Much Better Half photographed it.

I generally suck at painting, but this came out pretty well I think. It's got an awesome 1970s Charlie's Angels kinda vibe to it. Only with more nudity. Which only makes it better.
