Lamia Rising

Glen Hammonds is working on a project with myself, Tim Vigil, and some other artists called Lamia Rising. It's going to be wicked! My contribution thus far is the above graphite Lamia. Just my interpretation of the character. I believe it will be digitally colored by Hammonds. Stay tuned for more on that project!

Below is a variation on the character - just nude and without the snake body.

Somebody's Having a Weird Day

Just another quick warmup sketch in a sketchbook. This one has graphite, charcoal, acrylic paints, brush pens - all sorts of stuff crammed in it. For what good it all did.

Figure Drawing Class 1

NOTICE: If you think nudity is evil and dirty then, well, firstly you're an idiot, and secondly, don't scroll down, because there are evil, dirty drawings of lines that resemble a person who is naked. It's not really a person who is naked, just lines on paper that, when combined, create the illusion of nudity.

There. I've said my piece. Now continue downwards, daredevils.

As all of you may or may not know - I never went to Art School. I'm self-taught. A self-made "artist" (and, yeah, I'll be using the quotes until I do it exclusively for a living, my friends).

So that means I've never done a Figure Drawing class. You know, where a bunch of people get together with their art supplies and a cute, nice young woman disrobes (or stays clothed sometimes) and does poses so you can, you know, draw her and learn how shadows and anatomy work with a living, breathing human being.

So on Sunday I was invited to Sketchy Doodle here in Phoenix (Tempe, actually - but these little cities are just code for PHOENIX), and I was ecstatic, but nervous. But then I got there and everybody was very sweet-natured and professional and cool. Some people were just starting out, some people could draw very well. And, below, you'll see the very first of my life figure drawing, and the time that the dear woman held the pose. I drew a lot of pictures (I draw fast anyway), but I've selected the ones that I favor the most. I had the best fun sitting for three hours drawing a subject since I drew for people at the recent Phoenix Comicon.

40-minute pose:

There was still time left-over for me for the "hour-long" pose that only took my pen and ink 40 minutes, so I got closer for a portrait.

20-minute pose:

Well, that's it! I won't show the ones I thought kind of sucked.

I hope you enjoy these sketches as much as I did drawing them!

Spider-Man

Spider-Man was always my favorite character when I was a kid. I'm going to eventually make an all-out balls-to-the-wall awesome drawing of him for the Comicon coming up, but this was just a quick little pencil sketch that took all of five minutes. Then I gussied it up a little in Photoshop. I kinda like the result. It looks a little retro, and I dig that look. Not something I've ever tried, really.

Rest Assured

Rest assured, Kamikaze Snowmen fans, I am, indeed, working on the three artwork prizes as we speak. I'm trying to pack as much fine-tuning and awesomeness into them as possible, so there is going to be a bit of a wait, as I'm backlogged a bit.

In the meantime, enjoy these quicky sketches. I haven't used graphite in a while, but a friend gave me a pad and papers to work with, so I gave it a whirl below. Following that is a second attempt at figuring out the ol' Copic airbrush system. There's nudity involved, but if you aren't worrying about your eyes exploding out of your head by looking at lines on paper you should be fine. What do you think?

Oh, and I have the flu right now. Take my advice and don't get it. It's terrible!
