Stars On Thars
Approximately 12 inches vertical by 11 horizontal, acrylic on cardboard (I think the cardboard backing that comes with Fruit of the Loom packs of plain white T-shirts or something like that). I can't stress how much better it looks in person. It doesn't fit my puny scanner, so my Much Better Half photographed it.
I generally suck at painting, but this came out pretty well I think. It's got an awesome 1970s Charlie's Angels kinda vibe to it. Only with more nudity. Which only makes it better.

Slipping Away
Our new little puppy Oz has suddenly grown big enough (overnight it seems) to jump up onto the couch. We praised him for his newfound ability, but I just know this spells trouble.

The Undertaker And His Pals
Above is the wrestler known as The Undertaker. I don't follow professional wrestling, but my girlfriend's brother's birthday is coming up and he digs it, so I whipped up the picture for him. My girlfriend did the coloring. She's cool like that. Dig it.
Oh, by the way, the title of this blog entry is a reference to the Z-grade 1966 horror/exploitation movie THE UNDERTAKER AND HIS PALS. I just point that out so it doesn't confuse anyone thinking there should be other professional wrestlers in the drawing. I don't know wrestling. I know movies. Somebody mentions The Undertaker to me and I think of 1966. I'm kind of stupid.

Beside The Railing
Added the color (above) in Photoshop after doing the original pen and ink with a watercolor wash (below).
Oh, I also did a pretty decent likeness of Al Pacino in the margins of a notebook (below) while I was watching Michael Mann's movie HEAT the other night. "GIMMIE ALL YA GOT!!!!" he seems to say. Or he could simply be thinking to himself, "That De Niro's not so hot. I even got first billing over the mook. Who's hot now?"

Margins: Weekend Blow-Out! Pantsgnomes! And More!
Just work doodles and other random miscellanea above. Nothin' to get too worked up over. Again, my apologies for the lack of updates and the lack of "good" artwork, but my Super Secret Project has been taking up the very small amount of spare time I've had lately.
In other news, I just watched Neil "The Descent" Marshall's directorial debut DOG SOLDIERS again with the significant other. Man, that's a good flick. He references so many other movies (mainly Cameron's 1986 ALIENS), but manages to keep the flick his own (a talent he used again for THE DESCENT, but couldn't quite manage for DOOMSDAY, which, while loads of fun, just felt like a mishmash of seven or eight other movies). Regardless, DOG SOLDIERS is rad.
I'm still in the midst of getting through the BUFFY and ANGEL series. I don't know if that's a call for pity or envy, but it's quite an undertaking. Right now I'm on Buffy Season 6, which means I'm concurrently watching Angel Season 3.
I also re-watched George Romero's 1985 masterpiece DAY OF THE DEAD. I daresay it's the best of his zombie series upon re-watching. But then there's NIGHT and especially DAWN. It's so hard to choose! DAY is so depressing, but SO FREAKIN' GOOD and filled with AWESOMELY BADASSERY SPECTACULARNESS! Ah, Romero.
I've also suddenly discovered David Bowie, thanks to a friend at work who recommended some albums. Where the hell was I when Bowie was churning out awesomeness? Oh yeah - I wasn't born yet. I love early 70s British rock, and for some reason it took me a while to get around to Bowie. Every time I thought of him, I just though of the Jim Henson movie LABYRINTH and the "Stranger From a Strange Land" ripoff THE MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH (which isn't bad, despite Walter Tevis's source novel completely ripping off Robert Heinlein's), so I guess I just wrote off Bowie as some musician-turned-glam actor. Boy, was I wrong. After listening to SPACE ODDITY and THE RISE AND FALL OF ZIGGY STARDUST on repeat, I'm ready for more. I'm gonna try to catch HUNKY DORY and ALADDIN SANE next. Why was I only sticking to Zeppelin, the Stones, The Who and Pink Floyd when Bowie was out there too? The world will never know.
Okay. My tirade of long-windedness is over. Everyone enjoy the weird little doodles above, and have a great weekend!

NYC 1931
Finally saw Ajexandre (High Tension, The Hills Have Eyes remake) Aja's MIRRORS starring Kiefer Sutherland. It is really bad. I don't know what I expected, but I didn't expect to see nothing happen for an hour while Kiefer Sutherland walked around as a night security guard in a creepy place. Finally, Amy Smart rips her jaw off to get things moving at about the hour mark, but by then it's too little, too late. Mirrors, in general, are kinda creepy, and allow for many spooky dooky movie things to occur. This film does not contain any of those things. This film is just kinda ....stupid. And bad. And poorly acted, to boot. I guess Sutherland was tired from the DUI arrest and doing '24' marathon shoots.
Alexandre Aja should've known better.
