The Snowman Cometh
A quick sketch for the upcoming giveaway from the Kamikaze Snowmen that we're in the midst of doing. I'll post the giveaway pieces when I get the all-clear. Right now I'm working on Snowmen songs and on Snowmen artwork. It may be 72 degrees where I am right now, but there is snow in my heart.

Two Filmmakers Died Yesterday
Filmmakers Blake Edwards and Jean Rollin are dead as of yesterday. Bums me out.
Blake Edwards made Breakfast at Tiffany's in 1961, the Pink Panther films, Victor/Victoria and my favorite of his movies - "10", among many other things. He was a comic genius most of the time, whether he was writing, producing or directing, but also had a tremendous versatility, making dramatically different movies like The Days of Wine and Roses and Experiment in Terror (both 1962). He was married to Mary Poppins for goodness sakes, so he must've been doing something right.
Jean Rollin was considered the first French horror filmmaker. His debut film The Rape of the Vampire caused a literal riot when an irate audience - not knowing whether they were seeing art, horror, or crap - threw objects at the screen, tearing it down. He made several other films revolving around vampires throughout the 1970s including a personal fave called Requiem for a Vampire, The Nude Vampire, and Shiver of the Vampires. He also made a little movie called The Living Dead Girl, which is now well-known due to the Rob Zombie homage song of the same name. Night of the Hunted is good, too, and totally worth checking out. It's about people losing their memory and personalities after a radiation leak and is actually probably his most well done and accessible movie. His films overall were different, delirious, artsy, colorful, slow, ponderous, and completely insane with rampant nudity and blood, and it's a shame he won't be making any more.
So much creative energy, and now it's gone. Consider me bummed.

"My Plus One Mace (Octopus Rising)"
The always outstanding Kamikaze Snowmen present a new epic tale about a handy weapon and a deadly octopus. It gets weirder and awesomer from there.
And yes, I realize awesomer is not a word. That's how awesomer this song is.

Is it just me, or...?
Another page from my little Moleskine No Pho Ref sketchbook (No Photographic Reference, meaning it's all drawn from my brain). The book has evolved into little comic strips featuring the super-hero Bill (above) and his buddy Ryan (not featured) talking about all sorts of stuff, mostly stuff they probably shouldn't talk about. As you can see, I'm on page 72, and this particular book (volume one) is coming to an end soon.
If you've read above, my main point (or Bill's, rather) wasn't worthlessness, but that it's very nearly December. That's just shocking to me. Seriously. December? Already?

The Damned and the Delayed
Time is just not on my side lately. Work is taking too much focus, and I never seem to have any time to draw or make music or what-have-you. This bums me out.
But it shouldn't bum you out - above are some pics I've been able to dash out over the past week. And the new long-awaited Kamikaze Snowmen song is coming soon! I've been holding it up and sitting on it to death almost, tweaking and twisting and turning all the goodness Josh and Paul gave me into something wholly crazy and great. That is, I hope. Hence the tweaking and twisting and turning. So I'm to blame for the delay, but hopefully it will be worth the wait and really deliver.
Anyways. Time. I just wish I had more of it to spare, folks.
If anybody out there wants to give me a bunch of money to sit at home and draw and make music and what-have-you, I will certainly take you up on it! Until then, delays delays delays and the occasional wonderfulness.

The Kamikaze Snowmen - the greatest band in the world planet* - present a new song about feeding animals and the results of feeding animals. Fun! So break on through to the other side and wait until the music's over and then you'll know it's the end. See what I did there? I know. It was smarteded.

"(Ain't Gonna Play Your) Metagame" Music Video
Production value! Excitement! Emotion! Drama! Thrills! Chills! Rainbows!*
*does not contain rainbows
Oh, and no, I'm not in it. I watched it four times and couldn't find me at all, but then I remembered that I couldn't make it to the shoot because of 1,220 miles of terrain between me and the shoot. It saddens me so, because it's totally rad!
But this is my blog, and I'll post whatever the damn hell I want!
And - hey - just because I'm not in something doesn't mean it's not awesome! I know it's hard to believe, but it's true.
Aaaaaanyways - here it is! Two-thirds of The Kamikaze Snowmen present the amazing music video for "Metagame"! Check it, cats! Check it twice just for fun, and three times for seriousity*. Then a fourth for fun again!
*seriousity may not be a word

The Plague Fields
I've always been fascinated by the various outbreaks of The Black Death, but I've now found something just as fascinating - Plague Doctors. It's said that they were probably, in the end, more responsible for transporting the disease than curing it and - hey, turns out most of them were volunteers and not doctors at all, as most doctors would have already fled the region knowing there was no help they could give. The Plague Doctors (so fun to draw, as you can see) would usually just show up, diagnose who had the Plague and who didn't, then would cordone areas off as "Plague Fields" to burn the hundreds and thousands of afflicted bodies.
What's so interesting and certainly sinister about these Plague Doctors was their appearance - a crude prototype of a gasmask, usually looking like a bird's beak (herbs would be placed in the nose to "filter" the "bad air"), and red-tinted glass portholes for eyes that, due to the red-tinting, would purportedly ward off evil. There was also the strange black tophat and full, long, black trenchcoat, usually topped off with a black walking cane to prod with. Creepy characters indeed. If you saw a man approach dressed as a tall dark bird-like creature, then you knew death was coming soon.

Mitchell!
No, it's not Joe Don Baker, but Mitchell the Irish vampire hiding away in Bristol from BBC's Being Human, which I just finished watching (seasons one and two, anyway). It's freakin' awesome! And Mitchell's the balls! So now I don't think of just Joe Don when I hear the name Mitchell said aloud. It's a nice feeling.
Below is the original brush and ink for the purists out there. Photoshop just gets so fun it's hard to stop myself sometimes. Just like Mitchell. And Joe Don.

Sketch Dump
I finished another Moleskine sketchbook. This one is what I refer to as my Crap Sketchbook. When I tell people I haven't been drawing lately, it's actually kind of a lie, because I'll always try to find time to sneak a doodle or two into my Crap Sketchbook when no one's looking.
What follows are a few selections from the 120 pages of this Crap Sketchbook (another Crap Sketckbook has already been born since). These are just some of the pages I personally find interesting but, rest assured, almost all of these are what I like to call Drawn in Sixty Seconds, so keep in mind many are bad, some are interesting, most are not polished, and a handful are just little experiments with varying media.
Basically, this is the stuff I usually don't show anybody. But, hey, I haven't posted in a while, as I've been stupid busy with Life and the World and just wanted to remind the internet that I haven't died.
Enjoy the Sketch Dump, in no particular order.
