Lonely Car

Couldn't sleep last night, so I drew the pic above while watching some MST3K. I don't usually draw cars and I'm shit-lazy with backgrounds, so it was a fun, if not entirely successful exercise.

Saw some flicks recently. Saw the incredibly fun and great Zombieland in theaters. Recommended highly. Even for people who don't care for zombie movies. It's so much fun. It feels like this movie is the reason you go to the movies. This is the kind of good time you hope for. You usually don't get it, but Zombieland delivers pizzas, man.

Also saw Valkyrie. Mehhhhhhhhhh. I'm a fan of Tom Cruise and director Bryan Singer and, hell, everybody in the cast, but this movie was just boring to me. I mean, you're starting with a plot to kill Hitler - something you already know was not achieved. So you're basically watching a movie about people who almost do something interesting. Which isn't very interesting. It had it's moments, but who cares?

Oh, and I finally finished watching the Buffy and Angel shows. That's twelve freakin' seasons of television. Yow. It took a whie, but it was worth it. The last season of Angel is wicked awesome.

Dr. Lecter, I Presume?

Watching The Silence of the Lambs again. Haven't seen it in a long time. Boy, it holds up. It's so incredibly well made! And everybody is soooooooo good in it. Man.

Also finally saw Sam Raimi's Drag Me To Hell. It's dumb as a completely insane rock, but it's a hulluva lotta of fun if you don't take it seriously. At all. So if your brain falls out and you're looking for some stoopid goodness, then you could do worse.

"Robot Love"

Dann Keller joins The Kamikaze Snowmen to bring you "Robot Love", an excellent little diddy about having relations with a toaster. Or not. Regardless, it's a great song! Listen to the nuts and bolts of the matter with your ears!

Talking Heads

Just some doodles I did the other night watching a little MST3K before bed.

Nothin' serious.

You ever had a dream where you're rushed on stage during a play and you don't know your lines? I just had an entire day like that at work today. Ugh.

"Exploding Woodland Creatures"

The Kamikaze Snowmen are hard at work on a couple of new songs, so The Powers That Be have decided in the meantime to release an older song that brings tears of joy to my face, as it was recorded during one of the last times the three founding members of the band were in a room together. Or, maybe the second to the last, in which case it's on the extremely-hard-to-find album Pretty: A Work of Art.

Uh, I think booze may have been had at the time of the recording. I'm not sure. Enjoy the madness, the creatures, and their maddening exploding features!

That's blad!

Really, Fool?

A friend texts me after reading yesterday's post: "The IMAX screen at the Siam Paragon in Bangkok also let's you choose your seat."

So, when in Bangkok, folks, don't hesitate to see a movie in a theater. The Siam Paragon, to be exact (it's where said friend saw The Dark Knight last summer, hassle-free).

In other news, I finally got a chance to see Roman Polanski's Repulsion starring a very young Catherine Deneuve. Is it just me, or is she the most beautiful woman in the world, circa 1965? I don't think it's just me.

You wanna see somebody go nutso, then watch this movie! It's a doozy! Say what you will about Polanski (I personally prefer not to confuse the art with the artist), this movie is incredible. I now own the Criterion edition of it on DVD, and am happy as a clam about it. I can only imagine this movie knocking people on their asses back in 1965. A really stunning study of a woman going bonkers. Highly recommended.

Oh, and I do have an opinion about this Polanski business, in case you're wondering. I think everyone should leave him the hell alone and just let him keep making movies. His "victim" has told the world that they have privately settled the entire matter amicably between themselves years ago and that she wants everyone to chill the hell out. That's good enough for me, people. And, regardless of all that, he's still an amazing filmmaker, so all this recent business certainly ain't gonna stop me from enjoying his films. And it shouldn't stop you from doing likewise. Separate the art from the artist if you need to, people, and check out Repulsion. It's freakin' amazing.

Somebody's Got An Axe To Grind

Well, Paranormal Activity isn't quite as scary the second time around, but it still works on a number or levels and, in fact, it's faster-paced the second time you see it. So that's good.

What's bad is that the midnight audience I saw it with this time was less-than-respectful towards the movie-going "experience". That is: they were a bunch of fucking obnoxious assholes. Even the theater managers were a bunch of douche bags who not only moved my group from one theater to another (because they initially refused to let us sit together in the same reserved row for some ridiculous reason - causing a bit of a ruckus), but also lined up a special 2AM screening of people in the hallway during our screening of the film. The huge line of people waiting around in the hall was so overpoweringly loud that it pretty much ruined what is, essentially, a very quiet film, proving that no one really cares anymore about the exhibition of films in a theatrical setting (with the exception of The Arclight in Los Angeles, which actually allows you to reserve your actual seats in advance, and is the absolute best movie theater I've ever been to).

It's just really sad, and I've gotten to the point where I just hate going to the movies because of all the obnoxious, ignorant and disrespectful morons out there who assume a theater is the same as their living room and happily provide a running commentary, or use their fucking cell phones with the glaring blue lights nonstop or blah blah blah blah. Did I seriously just shell out 10 bucks to deal with this shit?

Ah, well. Enough of my ranting and raving. I suppose it's safe to say people have been disrespectful, obnoxious, and retarded towards the arts since the beginning of time, so I guess this is really nothing new. It just pisses me off is all. It takes a lot for someone who loves movies to hate having to watch one in a theater.

Bah.

Anywho. Today is a day I'm filling with little projects here at home, so I won't have to deal with any stupid people. Hooray for Sundays!

Push!

Lack of updates? I'm soaking in it! I started a new class this week (by which I mean I've started teaching a new class this week at work), so I've been completely behind the times on drawing much of anything or working on anything else.

The silliness above (does that first guy look like he's having a baby or is it just me?) is all I got to show.

The good news is that the movie Paranormal Activity has hit Phoenix this weekend for midnight showings and I'll be seeing it again late tonight. I almost never watch movies twice in a theater, but this time I'll make an exception. That's how awesome this movie is, people. I'm dragging a bunch of people from work out to it, too, along with my sister and a few others. I just hope it's as scary to them as it was for me. Otherwise I'll be frowned upon for ranting about this movie all week and somebody's bound to call bullshit.

I guess we'll see.
